Disdain for the common man is the hallmark of the consumer-based economy. Tricking them into buying junk keeps the consumer coming back for more.
In other words, waste is endemic to the consumer-based economy. Is it another example of failure by design? It seems the trajectory from planned obsolescence to junk is almost predetermined. Which came first, planned obsolescence or economic theory?
Is deceptive packaging incidental or intentional? Form cancelling function in the interest of promoting trade. In contrast, the earliest tally balls were designed to insure fair trade. Prevent diversion by middlemen!
Distinction between commerce and fair trade? Commerce is amoral, if not immoral. Trade is essentially moral, if not equal. Trade cannot be equal because the participants have different interests.
