Beyond good and evil lies the perversion of good, the natural behavior of the ordinary person, into evil via the simple addition of coercion. To coerce is to pervert, to prevent nature from taking its course.
Thus the grape vice is stripped of its tendrils to make more fruit. The man is tripped of his garments to be sacrificed on the cross. And we call his victimhood virtue.
“Playing the victim” is an evil charge. People do it in surrender to avoid death. Better a live victim than an abused dead body. But, surrendering to abuse is deadening in the long run.
Coercion serves to satisfy ego lust, an emotion that is, unfortunately, never satisfied. Ego fluffing is entirely wasted effort.
