Currency is a surrogate for debt. Is that too complicated a word?

Turns out there is now an assumption that the word refers to women being impregnated and carrying a fetus to term for someone else to parent. Perhaps that will generate more interest to the term being used for money. A surrogate dollar is like a surrogate mother?
