When my great-grandfather returned home to Louisiana after the War of Northern  Aggression, he started a family and the family business that still bears his name: H. J. Smith & Son. If you don’t believe me, you can Google it.

Because he was extremely thrifty, he hand-crafted many household items, including the potty chair on which my grandfather, my father, and I, as well as my kids were toilet trained.

Over the next five weeks, I will bring this precious family heirloom with me to meetings about why we should vote against SPLOST 2021 on or before March 16. Puddy’s Penny Pot is a symbol of where many of our pennies may end up.

The first first meeting will be from 7:00 to 9:00 this evening in the meeting room of the Coastal Georgia Historical Society next to the lighthouse on Saint Simons Island. Face masks are required and attendance is limited to fifty, so come early.
