No kidding!

Many years ago, according to a friend, I came up with the phrase “private benefit at public cost.” That was in response to a redevelopment proposal in Gainesville, Florida which was being touted by a “study” which claimed to have determined that the benefits of tearing down a century old neighborhood would deliver more benefits than it cost, without acknowledging that the people bearing the coat would not get the benefits.

Now my preference for the term “middlemen” seems to have caught on. It is a logical matter. Identify the agents, the doers and the done to. Middlemen serve to disguise agency.

Should probably admit that I really disliked the course in logic reuqired in college. It all seemed so obvious. It took me a long time to realize that logical thinking is not universal. Never mind that the instinct-driven do not even think.
