The energy industry is in a pickle

U.S. enterprise has always relied on the support of subsidies and guaranteed monopolies to thrive. “Free enterprise” was/is a long perpetrated lie inculcated by the chambers of commerce. The issue now is that the energy industry doesn’t want the traditional support to end.

Fact is that electricity consumption has been falling as conservation and innovation have had their anticipated effects. Coal plants are being decommissioned because regulator requirements on top of falling revenues is making them unprofitable.

Besides that, the plants are antiquated because the installation of anti-pollution equipment was tied to modernization. So, in the interest of avoiding air quality standards, the industry hasn’t modernized. Now the plants are falling apart.

The assumption that industrial enterprise adopts technological improvements as a matter of course has proved false.
