Pandering.

Both the immigration reform proposals and gun control strike me as pandering to the data accumulators esconced in our various bureaucracies. Being an optimistic person, I’m inclined to speculate that these proposals are an exercise in “giving” the Cons one or two failures, since failure is what they hanker for. Barack Obama saying, “see, I can be a failure, too,” would not be bad. Democrats taking another stupid Republican idea and demonstrating how it’s done (like they did with welfare reform) would be terrible.

The way to promote human rights is to prohibit the manufacture and sale of killer guns and leave people be. Migration is a natural function. Why interfere?

They say that “pride goeth before the fall.” Unfortunately, it’s usually one person’s pride making someone else fall. You know, like that cost/benefit thing.
